New Music Live with AMIT (Metalheadz) Sat 17th May

Multi award-winning Shaanti and the Eastern Electronic Festival are proud to present Shanti’s New Music Live, an exclusive event specially produced for the festival.

Showcasing exciting new music commissions will be the crème de la crème of progressive artists including: Nathan Flute Box Lee, The Clinic, AMIT (Metalheadz) Arun Ghosh, Sonic Boom feat. Surinder Sandhu, Jason Singh and Abrar Hafiz. Supported by My Panda Shall Fly.

Giving power to artists to create new music helps support, inspire and develop an independent music scene. This unique event has been designed through feedback and communication with the community to determine what gaps in the UK music scene needed to be filled. This tightly packed and stimulating programme of progressive artists will showcase the best new music live on the international arts scene.

AMIT (Metalheadz/ Tampa Records)

AMIT is a UK based live Music Artist, Composer and Producer. He has released two critically acclaimed albums Neverending (2006) and 9 Times (2011) and over thirty slates of vinyl including ‘Killer Driller’, ‘Roots’ and ‘Acid Trip’.

AMIT has been hailed as one of the most distinctive and original voices within the electronic music industry. He is credited with creating a new and innovative sub genre within electronic music, influencing a generation of new music artists. He was the first music artist within Electronica to begin creating music at his signature ‘half-step’ at 174bpm. A whole range of fellow artists quickly followed suit but AMIT is widely acknowledged as having been the pioneer. His work has been placed in the top 5 ‘Best Single’ and ‘Best Producer’ categories on the BBC Radio listener polls.

Nathan ‘Flutebox’ Lee

Nathan is a true 21st Century musical pioneer, taking live acoustic performance to the next level and urban music into uncharted waters. His hi-octane, hyper-percussive show combines the raw energy and attitude of Hip Hop and Jazz beats with the intricacies and musicianship of classical Indian music. Having collaborated live and in the studio with The Prodigy, The Roots, Beardyman, Plan B, Asian Dub Foundation, Foreign Beggars, Mattafix and Ed Rush & Optical, Nathan has established himself as a UK festival favourite, appearing at Bestival, WOMAD, Larmer Tree and Glastonbury.

The Clinic

Nathan ‘Flutebox’ Lee also puts on an eclectic live performance with The Clinic. Having just performed an explosive set on the Radio 1Xtra Stage at Reading and Leeds Festivals, showcasing a number of new tracks that they have been working on in the studio. The other talented musicians that make up The Clinic are Biscuit and The Last Skeptik. Nathan ‘Flutebox’ Lee and The Clinic is a perfect combination of different sounds that make for a vibrant new-music showcase for everyone in the audience to enjoy.

Arun Ghosh & Sonic Boom

Sonic Boom is the Midlands premiere of a new music work and collaboration by composer and jazz musician Arun Ghosh. Working with international Beatboxer and Vocal Sculptor Jason Singh, Midlands resident Surinder Sandhu (on Sarangi) and Abrar Hafiz, from electronic punk-rock band Driving Lolita on Bass Guitar. Inspired by Underworld, David Holmes, Stockhausen, Kraftwerk. Moondog, and David Bowie, this exciting new music collaboration combines chunky urban composition with improvisation layered textures set across dub-plates of electronic, dub, classical and jazz.

My Panda Shall Fly (DJ Set)

Since 2012, in-between appearances on Rinse FM & Boiler Room, and various festivals like BBC Hackney Weekender, Outlook Croatia & Glade, Suren Seneviratne aka My Panda Shall Fly (MPSF)  has released a plethora of truly eclectic material, avoiding genre confinements along the way and proving difficult to define in every sense. Having released his debut EP on Dam Mantle’s Growing Records & Wichita Recordings – which saw incredible support from the likes of Pitchfork, Dazed Digital, Clash Magazine, XLR8R, The Fader, The Independent, Dummy Mag & more. Following that came an onslaught of incredible remixes for the likes of The Weeknd, Fink, Psychologist, Terror Danjah & Little Boots.

Busy in the studio with producer Asier Leatxe Ibañez d’Opakoa (Electric Lady Studios, NYC) recording a six-track world music concept album, incorporating live instrumentation as well as electronics, which is being planned for release in 2014.  MPSF seems to be slowly yet carefully leaving a mark across the whole of the contemporary abstract electronic music scene in his own unique & eccentric way.

This event will be supported by a new-visual digital-mapping show, during all performances.
